The History of LEDs

Light emitting diodes, otherwise known as LEDs in San Jose, are a popular and energy efficient type of lightbulb. LEDs are quickly becoming the go-to choice for eco-friendly light designs, but where did LEDs come from?

As seen in the short video, the first visible-spectrum LEDs were created by Illinois-born Nick Holonyak, Jr in 1962. Based on Nick’s work, other LED colors were created, and popular applications for LEDs were soon found. Due to the manufacturing process, LED lighting was only used in small applications, until recently. Now, lighting companies recommend homeowners use LED lighting for their indoor and outdoor designs. LEDs have been proven as better for the environment, and each bulb can last for up to and over 20 years at a time.
